KINGSTON – The Marine corporal, who broke into three SUNY New Paltz student off-campus apartments last September, attacking the women, was sentenced in Ulster County Court on Wednesday to 15 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision.
Kevin Guerrero, 20, will also have to register as a sex offender.
Guerrero, a lance corporal, who was assigned to the Marine Corps unit at Stewart Airport, pled guilty to burglary and sexual abuse, both violent felonies, last March. He admitted to breaking into a college student’s apartment and subjected a student to sexual contact while she was asleep.
Guerrero was accused of breaking into three off-campus student residences with intent to commit a crime and attempted to break into a fourth. He is also accused of breaking into a local business with intent to commit a crime.
All offenses are alleged to have occurred in the early morning hours of September 4, 2016 in the Village of New Paltz. The occupants of all of the residences at the time of the break-ins were sleeping.
“It is especially disheartening when a member of the military who has endeavored to protect all of us beaks the law,” said District Attorney Holley Carnright. Guerrero’s actions “are abhorrent and cannot be excused even by his service to this county,” the DA said.
