WHITE PLAINS – A Lake Peekskill woman, who was a long-time employee of the Tarrytown Union Free School District and most recently worked as a secretary in the Sleepy Hollow Middle School, has been charged with stealing thousands of dollars from the district.
Carol Ressa, 53, was charged with grand larceny as a public corruption crime and a second count of grand larceny, both as felonies. She is accused of stealing over $10,000.
Between October 2011 and this past March she allegedly used her position as a public employee to steal school district checks as well as checks and money orders from students and their families to pay for student activities. Those included class trips, yearbooks and school lunches. She allegedly deposited the stolen money into her own personal bank accounts for her own use.
Ressa was arraigned with bail set at $5,000 cash or $25,000 bond. If convicted, she faces from a minimum of one to three years and a maximum of five to 15 years in state prison.
