MIDDLETOWN – Some $40 million, mostly in state funds, will be pumped into the City of Middletown starting this construction season.
One of the largest single chunks of funding is for the Downtown Revitalization Initiative, noted Mayor Joseph DeStefano.
“The DRI is $10 million,” DeStefano said. “The [Heritage] trail is about a $12 million; $2.7 million is the [city] court; $7 million is the Coach USA terminal; $7.5 million is the transportation – the handicapped accessibility of the intersections; $2.7 million, through Senator Schumer, was the sidewalks in the high foot-traffic areas; and that comes up to about $40 million.”
Some of the funding, including for the Heritage Trail, comes from Orange County.
The mayor also said the Dolson Avenue corridor, which is seeing a major housing boon, will also have a big push for commercial businesses including a planned cheese factory.
