NEWBURGH – City Councilwoman
Genie Abrams is not going to seek re-election this fall and instead is
backing the director of operations at Safe Harbors of the Hudson Valley,
Democrat Ramona Monteverde, to replace her on the Newburgh council.

“I want to keep it going,” said Monteverde. “I want
the progress we’ve made in the past three and a half years to continue,
and to pick up even more momentum,” said Monteverde.

“It’s clear that after decades of decline, Newburgh is moving
forward in a vibrant manner,” Abrams said. “Ramona is committed
to our residents and our businesses, and to guiding the city to even greater
achievements in the next four years.”

Monteverde has held her position with Safe Harbors for 14 years. She has
also served on the Newburgh City Planning Board for over 13 years.
