MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Legislature is expected to vote, today, to join the legal battle against prescription opioid manufacturers. A handful of other counties including Orange, are suing with the contention that the companies are using deceptive practices and false advertising.
Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek said it will cost the county nothing to join the suit.
“We are using a firm that four or five other counties in New York State are using and they are working pro bono until such time of if there is an award they would get a percentage of the award,” Potosek said. “There is no upfront cost to the counties.”
Over-prescribing of prescription opioids often leads to abuse of the leftover pills that can lead to getting hooked on them or worse, overdosing.
