TOWN OF GREENBURGH – A
petition seeking a referendum to consider creating a Village of Edgemont
in the Town of Greenburgh was turned down by Town Supervisor Paul Feiner.
He was tasked with investigating the petition and making a judgment based
on the law.
Feiner rejected the petition for three reasons.
“It wasn’t clear which properties would be part of an incorporated Edgemont,” the supervisor said. “There was no clarity and it was confusing whether some people would be paying taxes to the town; whether they would be voting in the town or Edgemont.”.
Feiner also said 27 people signed the petition twice and others signed
the petition for friends or family members and still others signed the
petition with names and signatures different from those on file with the
state Board of Elections.
The petitioners can file suit to challenge the decision or petition anew for the village status.
