Suspect wanted in Monticello shooting arrested in Erie PA

MONTICELLO – The suspect in the shooting of a Monticello man has been arrested in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Akeel Abdul Jamiel, 37, of Monticello was charged in a warrant with felonies of assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
Jamiel is accused of shooting a 28-year-old Monticello man in the hand on Wednesday, April 26. The victim underwent reconstructive surgery on his left hand.
Investigation by Monticello Police with assistance from the Sullivan County District Attorney and Sheriff’s offices, and State Police, tracked Jamiel to Pennsylvania where he was arrested on Monday by Erie, PA City Police. He was charged there as a fugitive from justice and was being held in Erie County Jail pending extradition back to Monticello.
