Beacon man charged with attempted murder in Pattern stabbing

PATTERSON – A Beacon man is in the Putnam County Jail on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing a 60-year-old man with a knife at a Route 311, Town of Patterson residence.
The incident occurred at about 10 a.m. on April 25 when Putnam County Sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call. When they arrived on the scene, they found the victim bleeding heavily from several stab wounds to his torso. With him were his girlfriend, his daughter and his infant granddaughter.
Patrick Murphy, 27, was identified as the assailant; he was arrested at the scene.
The victim was rushed to Danbury Hospital by Patterson Volunteer Ambulance Corps, where he underwent emergency surgery.
Murphy was charged with attempted murder and assault, both as felonies, and the misdemeanors of criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.  If convicted of the attempted murder and assault charges, he could face up to 25 years in state prison.
