TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE –
A 19-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie woman, who tried to jump off the Walkway
Over the Hudson was saved by local police officers.

At about 7:30 Tuesday evening, Poughkeepsie Town Police responded to a
private residence for a report of a suicidal 19-year-old woman. She was
found face down and unresponsive. The Arlington Fire Department and Mobile
Life Support Services transported her to MidHudson Regional Hospital in
Poughkeepsie.

A short time later, she fled the hospital on foot and was located nearby
in the City of Poughkeepsie, where she refused an officer’s command
to stop. The officer gave chase as the woman entered the staircase to
the Walkway Over the Hudson,

She continued onto the Walkway and as the officer got closer to her, she
attempted to climb over the railing and just as she had one leg over the
railing, the officer grabbed her and prevented her from jumping into the
Hudson River.

A Town of Lloyd officer also responded and helped restrain the woman,
who was returned to the hospital for a mental health evaluation and treatment.

The officer was treated and released at the hospital for a minor injury.
