Over 3,000 ticketed in distracted driving crackdown

MID-HUDSON – State Police on both sides of the Hudson River issued 3,307 traffic tickets during this year’s Operation Hang Up traffic enforcement period from April 6 to 10. The five-day period targeted those who use electronic devices while driving.
Troop K, which covers the counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Putnam, and Westchester, issued 1,244 tickets, including 178 for distracted driving; 401 for speeding; 22 persons for DWI arrests; 42 child restraint/seatbelt; and 17 for move over.
Troop F, which covers the counties of Greene, Ulster, Sullivan, Orange, and Rockland, issued 2,063 tickets, including 699 for distracted driving; 390 for speeding; 36 persons for DWI arrests; 78 child restraint/seatbelt; and 17 for move over.
Statewide, over 15,000 tickets were issued during Operation Hang Up.
Only the State Police Troop T, which covers the entire length of the Thruway, issued more tickets than Troop F, at 2,176.
