TOWN OF WALLKILL – Six families were displaced when fire ravaged a half-dozen apartments at the Sherwood Forest apartment complex at 224 Sherwood Drive in the Town of Wallkill Tuesday morning. Those apartments were heavily damaged while other adjacent residences sustained less.
The four-alarm blaze broke out around 6 a.m. in the Silver Lake Fire District.
The entire second floor was just a shell by the time the fire was extinguished.
Firefighters checked for hot spots on both levels of the residences.
Danielle, who lived with her boyfriend in one of the destroyed apartments, surveyed the damage from outside and talked to firefighters about some of the salvaged property.
The cause of the fire is unknown and there were no reported injuries. The American Red Cross assisted a few families.   Police Chief Robert Hertman said the apartment management was able to relocate most of the tenants in other apartments in the complex.
Fire officials at the scene would not comment about the fire pending
investigation.
Wallkill Police were also on-scene assisting in the investigation along with the Orange County Fire Investigations Task Force.
