MONTICELLO – Sullivan County may be ranked 61st for worst health outcomes among New York’s 62 counties, but it is a case of “61 is not 61,” according to Jonathan Drapkin, president of Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress, the regional think-tank organization.
The county has identified the issues to tackle to improve the health of its residents and Drapkin says they have their act together.
“From the government to the major not-for-profits to the healthcare agencies, they are all engaged now,” he said. “Maybe they didn’t get a change this year, but I think they are going to start to see movement there because they all recognize the need to address the issue and from everything I have been able to follow in the last year, they are absolutely trying to figure out how to improve this number.”
Drapkin equated Sullivan County’s efforts to a train starting up at a slow pace and gaining momentum as it moves along.
