WHITE PLAINS – A 22-year Westchester County employee was charged
on Tuesday with felony grand larceny for allegedly stealing more than
$3,000 from the county. The investigation is continuing and authorities
said additional charges are possible.

The probe began after an internal Finance Department audit turned up discrepancies
connected to the work of Michael Taylor, 44, of Beekman.

The audit “raised some red flags” regarding transactions he
handled, said County Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth. The
District Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.

Taylor was booked with bail set at $50,000 bond or $10,000 bail.

He was suspended without pay. His most recent work, for nine years, was
as a staff assistant in the Benefits Section of the Finance Department.

It is alleged that Taylor ripped off more than $3,000 by stealing US Postal
Service Money Orders, checks, or cash which he received at the office.
Investigators said the scam was systematic and ongoing from about January
1, 2014 through this February 28.

Taylor “violated the trust placed in him to be a careful steward
of money earned by the hard-working employees of Westchester County,”
said District Attorney Anthony Scarpino.
