MIDDLETOWN – The plan on how to spend the $10 million state Downtown Revitalization Initiative in the City of Middletown has been filed with the state for officials to give their blessing to the projects proposed by the city.
Mayor Joseph DeStefano said the city is ready to go on some of the projects as soon as Albany gives the green light.
The first building repurposing could be on the former Woolworth department store, the mayor said.
“It has many components including green infrastructure parking, it has a retail component, the Heritage Trail comes through it; it will connect to the Heritage Trail through Roberts and Orchard Street,” DeStefano said. “It is a huge part of the plan and we are hoping for a very quick turnaround and approval so we can move the project along very quickly.”
Middletown’s plan includes about $14 million in projects, so the
state may cut some of them out. The mayor said hopefully other monies
may be identified to fund all of the work.
Middletown was the only city in the Mid-Hudson Valley/Catskill region to be selected for the $10 million redevelopment prize.
