Lt. Carrion

NEWBURGH – Following the resignation of Newburgh Police Chief Daniel Cameron, Lt. Richard Carrion has been named officer in charge of the city department for the time being.
Because he does not have the requisite two-year minimum as a lieutenant
to qualify to take the civil service exam for chief, he cannot be named
acting chief. His lieutenant title remains the same, although he is in
charge of the department.
A civil service test for chief is being administered today. Four people who meet the requirements to be chief are signed up to take the exam. None is a current members of the Newburgh Police Department.
Test results won’t be available for three weeks. There must be at least three candidates with passing grades for the list to be tapped and those who passed be polled as to their interest in the job.
The entire process will take several months.
