POUGHKEEPSIE – Dr. Anil Vaidian was easily confirmed as Dutchess County’s new commissioner of behavioral and community health.
County legislators, including Republican Angela Flesland, had high praise for him, particularly following a two-hour interview with a screening committee.
“He really thought about things before he said it, and I think we are going to have a great commissioner and I think that he will really utilize the talents of the people within the combined department,” Flesland said.
The only opposition came from Democrat Joel Tyner, who raised the same issue he often raises during confirmation votes, arguing that the appointee hasn’t taken what he regards as necessary positions on certain environmental issues.
Vaidian will assume the position in April.  The appointment is for six years.  The Putnam County resident will be granted a residency waiver.
