Bharara

NEW YORK – US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet
Bharara, is one of the US attorneys President Trump wants to replace and,
in fact, fired him on Saturday.

Bharara is among 46 US attorneys asked to resign on Friday.

The federal prosecutor, who was appointed by former President Obama, has
won nothing but praise from Mid-Hudson law enforcement, who said he has
been working aggressively with them to rid the area of organized crime,
gang violence and drugs.
Bharara issued a statement late Saturday afternoon saying he was “fired
from my position.” He said serving as US Attorney for the past seven
years “will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life,
no matter what else I do or how long I live.”

Now comes speculation that this might pave the way for Bharara to challenge
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio or Governor Andrew Cuomo. All three men
are Democrats.
