Walden man charged with vehicular manslaughter

TOWN OF MONTGOMERY – A
32-year-old Walden man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and
driving while intoxicated following a fatal car crash on Route 52 in the
Town of Montgomery on Saturday.

State Police said Dennis Wilson, Jr. was also charged with refusing to
submit to a chemical test.
Wilson is a former captain with the Walden Fire Department.

Troopers said the accident occurred just west of Rider Road as Wilson
was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee, crossed over the double yellow
lines and struck a 2006 Hyundai Accent head-on, killing the driver. The
victim was identified as Jason Exley, 28, of Walden.

Wilson was transported to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital’s Newburgh
campus for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Wilson was arraigned at bed-side by Orange County Court Judge Craig Brown
who remanded him to the custody of the sheriff’s office in lieu
of $50,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond upon his release from the hospital.

Assisting Montgomery Town Police at the scene were Village of Walden Police,
Walden Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, the Troop F State
Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Orange County Medical Examiner’s
Office.
