Monticello woman arrested for firing shotgun in her apartment

MONTICELLO – Police in Monticello arrested a local woman on a charge that she fired a shotgun inside her apartment at Building 10 of the Sleepy Hollow Apartment complex at Terry Lane in the village.
Nanette Barnes, 47, was arrested on Wednesday, March 1 on a charge of felony reckless endangerment. It is alleged that she fired the weapon into the ceiling of her apartment during the evening of Friday, February 24. The round traveled through the floor and into the apartment above Barnes’.
The incident was not reported to Monticello Police until Tuesday, February 28.
A search warrant was also executed on Barnes’ apartment which resulted in 69 rounds of 12-gauge buckshot being recovered.  The shotgun was not found.
Barnes was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail pending further court action.
