POUGHKEEPSIE – Central
Hudson Gas and Electric is continuing to replace natural gas lines in
communities in the region as part of its initiative to modernize equipment.

This year the utility plans to replace 14 miles of gas mains; more than
18 miles of mains were replaced in 2016.

Gas main replacements in 2017 are scheduled in the cities of Kingston,
Newburgh and Poughkeepsie; the towns of Poughkeepsie, Catskill, Cornwall,
Newburgh and New Windsor; and the Village of Wappingers Falls.

The mains to be replaced are comprised of cast iron, wrought iron, and
bare steel, most installed before 1950.

In addition to pipeline replacements, Central Hudson will work with property
owners to relocate indoor gas meters to the outside of their homes and
businesses to improve access and inspections by utility personnel.
