NEWBURGH – The Newburgh City Council will consider modifications before it adopts an amended tenant responsibility ordinance.
Council members have heard from landlords, who talked of tenants trashing
their properties and of city inspection fees that they believe are too
high.
Mayor Judy Kennedy would like to toughen responsibility in the law.
“In looking at this legislation I do not see the accountability for the tenant does ‘wreck and run’,” Kennedy said. “I don’t see the accountability for that person who decides to kick in the doors.”
City council members are also going to consider inspections every other year instead of annually based on the recommendation of landlords.
