Neuhaus (podium): “The development is coming now”

JERSEY CITY, NJ – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus urged the Port Authority Board to reinstate $20 million for Stewart Airport that was cut from the transportation agency’s $32.2 billion proposed 10-year capital plan.
The money had been earmarked for construction of a customs and immigration
center for passengers arriving on foreign flights.  But, when the
draft plan was formulated, the Stewart terminal project funding was eliminated.
“The development is coming now,” Neuhaus said. “We have Norwegian Airlines on the cusp of announcing their service. You also have other major places like Woodbury Common, which has a large international market. All of these places are thriving and growing now. I think this is a great opportunity and great time to invest in Stewart.”
No decision has been made, but the Port Authority has already spent $181
million on infrastructure at Stewart in the almost 10 years it has been
operating the airport.
Newhaus made his plea to a Port Authority hearing in Jersey City, New
Jersey.
