BEACON – The woman who
jumped to her death from the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge at 7 p.m. Sunday was
a Beacon resident.

State Police identified her as 48-year-old Melissa Zukowski.

A passing motorist had called 911 to say a woman was out of her vehicle
standing at the guard rail on the Beacon side of the bridge. When police
arrived, she had already jumped into the Hudson River.

About two hours later, her body was recovered about 100 feet from the
Beacon shoreline.

The Newburgh City Fire Department rescue boat was dispatched to recover
the body and bring it to the west shore.
Also Sunday evening, another person jumped off the Mid-Hudson Bridge
at Poughkeepsie. No information is available about that incident at this
time.
