Poughkeepsie Police investigate early morning shooting

POUGHKEEPSIE – City Police in Poughkeepsie are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning in which a man was wounded in the upper right thigh. It was his 41st birthday.
At about 3:50 a.m., police were dispatched to the vicinity of Church and Academy streets for report of a shooting.   When they arrived at the scene, they discovered a victim with a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in a personal vehicle because they didn’t want to wait for an ambulance.
Large crowds started to disperse as police arrived. Investigators said that, based on crowd, the shooting may have been gang related.  Bullet casings were recovered at scene.
