Maryland man charged in Ulster with rape for having relationship with underage girl

ESOPUS – A 48-year-old
Port Deposit, Maryland man has been jailed in Ulster County for having
a sexual relationship with an underage girl.

Daniel Kenneth Poole was arrested on Wednesday when he drove by a sheriff’s
office K-9 training exercise in Esopus. Deputies notices Maryland license
plates on the car and also saw a young girl walking in the area.

They spoke to Poole, who was driving the car, and determined he was there
to meet the child, with whom he was involved in a sexual relationship
for approximately six months. The two met online and he later began driving
to New York to engage in sex acts with the victim.

Deputies coordinated with the Cecil County, Maryland Sheriff’s Office
and executed a search warrant in his home where they found evidence about
the relationship.

As a result, Poole was charged with seven counts of criminal sexual act
and six counts each of rape.

Poole was remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash
bail or $400,000 bond.

The Ulster Sheriff’s Office was assisted in its investigation by
the US Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Ulster County
District Attorney’s Office.
