SUV rests against guardrail following crash

NEW WINDSOR – Two people were injured, one seriously, when an SUV
and tractor-trailer collided head-on on Route 747 not far from Little
Britain Road in New Windsor.

The accident occurred at 8:52 a.m. Thursday when the SUV, driven by Frank
Barbara, 54, of Washingtonville, crossed over into the opposite lane and
right into the path of the truck, driven by Frank Natal, Jr., 33, of Walden.

The circumstances and cause of the accident are under investigation by
New Windsor Police. Anyone with information about the accident or who
may have witnessed it is asked to call the police at 845-565-7000.

Barbara was entrapped in his vehicle with the Vails Gate Fire Department
responding to cut him out. New Windsor Volunteer Ambulance Corps members
transported him to the Newburgh campus of St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital
where police said he suffered from internal injuries and injuries to his
lower extremities.

Natal was also taken to St. Luke’s Cornwall for observation and
medical evaluation.

The trailer of his vehicle was half loaded with wooden pallets.

The State Police assisted at the scene, as well as their Commercial Motor
Vehicle Enforcement Unit. Orange County Haz-Mat and the state Department
of Environmental Conservation were at the scene due to the tractor-trailer’s
diesel fuel tank being ruptures during the crash.
