Arrest made in shooting death of Shamoya McKenzie

MOUNT VERNON – A 21-year-old Mount Vernon man has been charged
with murder in the December 31, 2016 shooting death of 13-year-old Shamoya
McKenzie in that city.

She was struck and killed by a stray bullet as she rode in a car in the
vicinity of Tecumseh Avenue and E. 3rd Street in Mount Vernon.

Charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon is David Hardy,
who according to the felony complaint filed against him in Mount Vernon
City Court, intended to shoot and kill Prince Scott by firing several
times from a 9mm firearm. The crime occurred at around 2:30 p.m.

McKenzie was a basketball star in her school, who was called “a
prefect child” by her mother, Nadine McKenzie.
