Boscia
CARMEL – Putnam County Sheriff’s Office First Sgt. Paul Boscia,
who retired just three weeks ago, will soon be back on the job.
Sheriff Donald Smith announced that Boscia will become the undersheriff
filling the position left vacant with the passing late last year of Undersheriff
Peter Convery.
Smith will be seeking re-election to his fifth term in November and he
could only appoint an undersheriff through the end of this year. “It
made good sense to find a man who could hit the ground running, a man
who knew the department and who was admired and respected by all of the
members of our department and correctional facility,” the sheriff
said, noting Boscia “is the right choice.”
Smith termed Boscia “a great leader and great trainer having been
a retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force. He brings tremendous experience
and energy to the position.”
Boscia, a Philipstown resident, joined the sheriff’s office in August
1988 initially serving as a corrections officer before moving up the ladder
to deputy, canine officer, sergeant and on January 1, 2008, the graduate
of the FBI Academy was promoted to the rank of first sergeant.
Boscia’s son, Matt, also works in the Putnam Sheriff’s Office
as a deputy sheriff.
The official announcement of Boscia’s appointment will be made next
month.
