NEW WINDSOR – Governor Andrew Cuomo made no mention of Stewart Airport during his regional state of the state address at SUNY Purchase on Tuesday, but he did get a firsthand look at the Newburgh area facility on Wednesday when the State Police helicopter in which he was flying made an emergency landing there.
The governor’s Director of Communications, James Allen, said Cuomo was on his way to New York City for meetings after he delivered his final regional address in Albany on Wednesday afternoon and the helicopter filled with fumes that smelled like smoke. The pilot made an emergency landing at Stewart.
The cause is being investigated and the helicopter is currently undergoing maintenance.
The governor and two aides were on board, along with security and the pilot. No
one was injured and everyone was safely transported to New York City.
