NEW YORK – A $20-million line item that had been in the early 2017-2026 Port Authority Capital Plan to construct a federal inspection station at the Stewart Airport passenger terminal has been removed. Stewart Airport Commission Chairman Louis Heimbach asked the agency board to restore the funding.
Heimbach addressed the board at its monthly session in Manhattan on Thursday
asking members to reinstate the money.  He noted that when the allotment
was pulled, there was no international passenger service on the drawing
board, but since then, Norwegian Airlines has announced it will start
flights between the Newburgh area airport and European cities by mid-year.
Heimbach told the Port Authority Board that the $20 million is a small amount when looking at the total $29.5 billion capital plan, but he said it is essential for the Stewart international service to be successful.
