Earl sworn in as chairman
NEW CITY – The Rockland County Legislature Wednesday night unanimously selected Toney Earl, a Democrat from Hillcrest, as the chairman for 2017.
Earl, who has been a county legislator since 2010, said lawmakers should put their differences aside, “whatever they might be, to leave party affiliation and politics out of the equation as we seek to discuss the issues and reach a consensus on the solutions – with common purpose and with the common goal of serving our great county to the fullest.”
He replaces Alden Wolfe, who served as chairman last year.
Lawmakers also chose Nancy Low-Hogan, (D, South Nyack), who said her goal in leadership “will be to search for solutions to our challenges through open communications, respect for all positions on issues and a cooperative spirit in our deliberations and quest for those solutions.”
Earl is a former health and safety director for New York City Transport Workers Union Local 100 and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Spring Valley. He is an executive member of the Spring Valley NAACP, is a member of Masonic Lodge Empire No. 5, chairs the funding projects commit at Mother Hale House, and chairs the College Scholarship Committee of the New York City Society of African American Employees.
