KINGSTON – A Hurley man
was being treated Monday evening at the Health Alliance Hospital in Kingston
after he jumped out of a second story window at the Super 8 Motel in the
city.

The man, later identified as Dennis Stokes, 36, was armed with a gun,
which he pointed at officers through an open window. He refused to surrender
and threatened to shoot anyone that tried to enter room 241 where he was
hold up.

Just before 5 p.m., officers spotted smoke coming from under the door
to the room and it spread quickly in the room. That is when Stokes jumped
out of a window and was taken into custody.

He was taken to the hospital with the extent of his injuries unknown to
police Monday evening.

Police said charges are expected to be filed at the completion of the
investigation into the entire incident.

Kingston Fire Department had previously staged at the scene and immediately
attended to the fire.

Assisting Kingston Police at the scene were State Police BCI, Ulster County
District Attorney’s Office, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office,
New York State Parole, and Mobile Life Support Services ambulance.
