Visitor charged with smuggling drugs to inmate at Sing Sing

OSSINING – A Brooklyn woman has been arrested for trying to smuggle drugs into Sing Sing Correctional Facility for an inmate she had planned to visit.
State Police at the Hawthorne barracks arrested Shakeema Chavis, 35, of Brooklyn on December 22 on charges of promoting prison contraband and four counts of misdemeanor drug possession.  Investigation revealed Chavis entered the prison with Suboxone, synthetic marijuana, heroin and cocaine.
She was released on an appearance ticket pending a future court appearance.
State Police were assisted by the State Department of Corrections and Community supervision Office of Special Investigations.
