MIDDLETOWN – Kirk Nelson is a 2012 graduate of Middletown High School, a football and wrestling star during his high school career.
He is a Marine and expects to be deployed back to the Middle East.
He has been dating fellow Marine Angel Krisko of Minnesota where they both live now. But, he brought her back to his hometown on Friday under the premise that he was going to show her where he ran many a touchdown for the Middles.
As they stood on the 50-yard line, he dropped to his knee and surprised her with a marriage proposal.
“I might have had my suspicions, but I didn’t think it was right now, right now,” she said. The couple has been together for four years and talked about marriage “a while ago,” she said.
Middletown native Toni Pugliese, who has been sort of Nelson’s “adopted mother” over the years, arranged the surprise with him.
Nelson expects to be deployed again soon, and the couple looks forward to tying the knot upon his return later in 2017.
Right after the marriage proposal, Nelson was planning on taking his Minnesota-native fiancée for her first slice of New York pizza.
