WHITE PLAINS – A Mount Vernon man was indicted on charges of attempted murder and attempted assault, both violent felonies, for trying to stab a Westchester County police officer with a knife. The officer’s bulletproof vest had slash marks in the chest area where the Ronald Clare Greenland, 53, tried to stab him.
As a result, a Westchester County grand jury indicted Greenland on 11 counts that also include attempted aggravated assault, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, trespass and possession of burglar’s tools.
On November 8 at about 2:15 a.m., Greenland was attempted to steal rims from a truck at a car dealership on North Bedford Road in Mount Kisco.
The police officer, on patrol, spotted a suspicious van in the parking lot of the dealership. It had previously been reported stolen from Scarsdale.
The officer pulled the vehicle over at a traffic light, but Greenland sped off leading to a high-speed chase. Greenland stopped down the road, jumped and began running. The officer gave chase through backyards and eventually caught him on Dickson Lane in Bedford. That’s where the struggle began and Greenland was eventually subdued.
After Greenland was arrested, police discovered a car jack and cinder blocks under a pickup truck on the dealership’s property.
Greenland also faces federal charges filed as he had previously been deported back to his homeland of Jamaica and illegally got back into the US. He had been deported based on a prior felony conviction related to his participation in a car theft ring.  If convicted on the latest charges, he faces up to 25 years to life in prison.
