Quick response; minor damage

RED HOOK – Fire in a wall at Max’s Memphis BBQ on Route 9 just south of the Village of Red Hook was extinguished before it had a chance to spread to the ceiling and the rest of the building.  The restaurant sustained minor smoke damage, but there was no structural damage to the kitchen or dining room.
Red Hook firefighters were called to the scene shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday and they found smoke coming from the rear of the building. They determined the source to be fire in the wall in the area of the restaurant’s boiler room near the water heater.
Fire Chief Rich Hilbrandt said firefighters were able to keep the flames from reaching the ceiling, from where it might have spread throughout the restaurant. It took under 15 minutes to extinguish the flames.
Red Hook was assisted by the Rhinebeck Fire Department, with Red Hook Police and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office also at the scene.
The cause of is under investigation, although is not considered suspicious.
