POUGHKEEPSIE – The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested two people in connection with an investigation into a drug possession incident in the Town of Wappinger.
Both are students at Roy C. Ketcham High School. Their identities were not released.
Both were arrested on December 7 by the sheriff’s office school resource officer after an investigation revealed that one student stole prescription medication from a friend the day before and gave it to the second suspect on the 7th. The theft of the medication occurred off school grounds, while the remainder of the incident occurred on school grounds.
The first defendant was charged with criminal possession and sale of a controlled substance, both as felonies, and a misdemeanor of petit larceny.
The second defendant was charged with felony tampering with physical evidence and misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance.
The criminal sale charge was brought because under the law giving someone a controlled substance is considered a sale, regardless of whether or not money was exchanged. The evidence tampering charge was brought because he allegedly attempted to discard evidence during the investigation.
