TOWN OF ULSTER – There is sad news in the Town of Ulster. Retired Police Chief Anthony Cruise died Thursday, following a battle with cancer. Cruise, who was 48, retired last year when he contracted the disease.
Cruise was a 24-year member of the Ulster Police Department, working his way through the ranks from police officer, detective, detective sergeant, lieutenant and retiring as police chief.
Town Supervisor James Quigley said Cruise’s death is a huge loss for the town.
“The Town of Ulster lost a dedicated civil servant, but more importantly a close friend to many, many people in the town,” Quigley said. “Our hearts go out to Krista, his wife, Ashley, his daughter, and Jesse, his son, and his extended family, and we stand by them to help them get through these terrible times.”
Police Lieutenant Lyle Berardi, the department’s officer in charge, said if not for his illness, Cruise would still be chief.
