POUGHKEEPSIE – The planned construction of a 250,000 square foot Brooklyn Brewery facility at the Stewart Airport Industrial Park in the Town of Newburgh is off the table; it was removed from Thursday’s agenda of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Board. The board tabled discussion last month, prompting company officials to say, “Auf Wiedersehen.” There is talk the company may expand on Staten Island.
But, Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the fight to bring Brooklyn Brewery to his county is not over.
Meanwhile, Dutchess County is offering an alternative, Deputy County Executive for Economic Development Ronald Hicks told MidHudsonNews.com.
“We want to make sure Orange County does everything they can to keep them in Orange County, but if that is not going to happen, if the Port Authority isn’t able to strike a deal with them, we want to let them know that we want them in the region and we can accommodate them,” he said.
Hicks said Dutchess has a few sites available and Brooklyn Brewery already has a presence at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park.
“We would bend over backwards to get them to Dutchess and would coordinate and expedite the permitting review and approval process,” said Hicks.
