TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE –
Police in the Town of Poughkeepsie are continuing their investigation
into an organized check fraud ring operating in and around Dutchess County,
which involves fake payroll checks being deposited or attempted to be
deposited into accounts at a local bank.

As a result of the investigation, police arrested Tyrell Barker, 23, with
residences in Highland and Brooklyn, on November 15 and again on November
30. During both arrests, he was charged with criminal possession of a
forged instrument and grand larceny, both as felonies. He was remanded
to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 for
the first arrest and $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond for the second
arrest.

The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office is expected to be filing similar
charges against Barker for incidents that occurred in the Town of East
Fishkill and City of Poughkeepsie.

The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are expected, police
said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Town
of Poughkeepsie Detective Division at 845-485-3670.
