PINE ISLAND – A house at 91 Walling Road in the Pine Island section of the Town of Warwick blew up late Tuesday afternoon and investigators are searching for the cause.
There was an initial report that someone might be trapped in the building, but a fire department radio transmission reported no one in the structure. The one female occupant who was inside at the time was able to escape with only minor injuries, said Orange County Fire Coordinator Vini Tankasali. She initially reported the fire by calling 911. She later told fire officials that she fell through a ceiling and was able to crawl out of the house.
Several area fire departments were called in to fight the three-alarm
blaze, which caused heavy damage to the single-family home.
The Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the family.
