YONKERS – The Yonkers Fire Department members of Squad 11 and Engine 314 responded to a call of a woman in labor on the Sprain Brook Parkway on Thanksgiving Day.
When the firefighters arrived, the mother had just given birth to a baby girl with 60 control dispatchers giving assistance to the father on the phone to help him deliver the baby. The firefighters then checked the baby’s vital signs and cut the umbilical cord, which was still attached to the mother while keeping her calm and ensuring the baby was warm.
The baby and her mother were then taken to the hospital for care by Empress Ambulance personnel and were reported to be doing fine.
“Congratulations to these fine firefighters, 60 control dispatchers and Empress Ambulance personnel on a job well done,” said Mayor Mick Spano. “Great team effort.”
