THOMPSON – The 2017 budget for the Town of Thompson will lower
the tax rate by 3.5 percent. Even though the $14.7 million spending plan
is up $1.5 million over this year’s, the much of the expenses are
attributable to infrastructure for the Montreign casino, which is responsible
for them, said Town Supervisor William Rieber.

Because of the town’s good financial position, Rieber budgeted funds
for infrastructure upgrades.

“We have budgeted for a new bookkeeping system because ours is currently
not being services properly,” he said. That costs $125,000. Health
insurance for employees is expected to increase $150,000. Administration
also added $250,000 for road repaving and added equipment reserves by
$110,000 “to give a boost to our road quality.”
Rieber said the town board conservatively budgets expenses and revenues
to prevent shortfalls later on in the year. “Essentially the extra
funds roll over to balance the budget the following year,” he said.
