FISHKILL – Two-and-a-half months after fire damaged a portion of
the Fishkill campus of the Gap Inc.’s mega-distribution center in
Fishkill on August 29, it is back up and running, thanks in large part
to a $2.65 million grant from the state.

The money helped keep everyone on the payroll and reconfigure an area
of the other building on the campus to meet customer demand during the
holiday season.
The fire was in the 1.3 million square foot facility, which remains
off-line. The other facility, at 1.9 million square feet, is housing all
of the operations including the temporarily repurposed area for the holiday
season drive. That space was placed into action on October 10.

“We’re not going to miss a beat this holiday season,”
said Jim Young, vice president and general manager of the Gap. Inc. center
at a Wednesday event at the facility.

Governor Andrew Cuomo was on hand at the cheerleading session to praise
the spirit of the company and its local employees. “We things are
at their worst, New Yorkers are at their best,” he said.

The Gap Inc. campus employs over 1,500 full-time and seasonal employees
at the Fishkill distribution center.
