Both reactors remained in operation

BUCHANAN – Operators at the Indian Point 2 nuclear power plant Tuesday declared an “unusual event,” the lowest of the four levels of emergency classifications used by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
A bushing on a 138-kilovolt electrical supply line failed. Entergy spokesman Jerry Nappi said that followed an electrical fault on a cable that carries electricity between both operating units at the site.
A small fire on the cable self-extinguished shortly after the fault occurred.
NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said their resident inspectors on-site heard the bushing fail and then observed the response to the fire. They will continue to follow up on the company’s repairs.
Nappi said there was no impact on plant operations and no injuries as a result of the event. Both plants continue to operate at full power.
