WHITE PLAINS – The Democratic Majority Leader of the Westchester County Board of Legislators said she does not want to rush into any plan to change private operators of the county airport until it has been properly vetted by her colleagues.
County Executive Robert Astorino last Thursday announced he has cut a deal with a new operator, Oaktree Capital Management, to run the airport for 40 years under a revenue-sharing lease that will see over $140 million going into the county coffers.
Legislator Catherine Borgia said she wants a full review of the proposal
before she gives it a thumb’s up or down.
“We are not going to be forced into doing a hasty review of something that is so important, a significant asset that is owned by the people of Westchester and I personally feel very, very strongly, and if the administration doesn’t agree with this, I am going to do this on my own, which is we also need to give the public an opportunity to weigh in on whether or not they feel this is a good deal for Westchester County,” she said.
Borgia said Astorino wants to push the new contract through as part of his 2017 budget but she will not be rushed until the legislature has had a chance to review it in detail. Astorino is set to present his proposed budget to lawmakers late this week.
