NEWBURGH – The man wanted in connect with the shooting deaths of two young women in Newburgh at a Halloween party has been arrested.
Newburgh Police Chief Daniel Cameron said that Nija Johnson, 17, of Newburgh was taken into custody outside New York State at 3 p.m. on Friday. He would not say where and said Johnson was not expected to be returned to New York for at least several days.
Johnson is accused of opening fire at the private party at a commercial business space at 119 Broadway in Newburgh. Killed were Tabitha Cruz, 20, and 18-year-old Omani Free, both of Newburgh. Five other people were wounded by gunfire.
