ELLENVILLE – The current Ellenville Regional Hospital building
is 50 years old and does not meet the needs and requirements of today’s
healthcare, so officials have begun planning to construct a new 80,000
square foot building at the same location as the current building. That
would be roughly 25percent larger than the current structure.

Hospital President Steven Kelley estimates it will cost between $40 million
and $50 million to build and while it would contain the same 25 in-patient
beds, out-patient services and space to accommodate them would be greatly
expanded from their current levels.

Kelley said they will plan a strategy to raise the necessary funding including
seeking funds from state lawmakers as well as the state Health Department.

They will also seek money from local organizations, businesses, residents
and staff.

Ellenville Regional is one of the few hospitals in the greater region
that remains independent. Its service area includes the Ellenville-Wawarsing
area of Ulster County as well as portions of Sullivan and Orange counties.
