MARLBORO – A student at Marlboro High School sent an image of a Nazi swastika through internal distribution to all students and staff last Friday and Superintendent of Schools Michael Brooks said the incident is “unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
In an open letter, Brooks wrote that to use the district’s email system, students and their parents must sign and adhere to the acceptable use policy, which prohibits that type of behavior. The school code of conduct also prohibits it, he noted. “Consequences will be applied in accordance with these policies.”
Brooks said access to various functions of the district’s email distribution groups “has already been edited” and the technology department is reviewing safeguards to reduce future risk of inappropriate use.
“We are confident that this inappropriate email does not represent the values of our student body and community,” Brooks said. Students in the district are “annually presented with programs that promote cultural diversity, cultural awareness, tolerance, and acceptance of differences.”
