NEWBURGH – The 10-year
payment-in-lieu of taxes that saw the Unitex commercial laundry paying
a portion of its property taxes has expired and the company will now pay
their full amount of Newburgh property taxes from now on.
Newburgh Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Terry Waivada
said the company is a significant plus for the city.
“What is really important about this company in my mind is that they bought property owned by the city, they built a building and they hired almost 250 people,” Waivada said. “They are a great backbone employer of the city and people that work there can walk to work. It’s really great.”
Unitex provides laundry services to hospitals and other commercial clients.
